FLOORING MAINTENANCE

During hot and humid months, use humidifiers to prevent shrinkage of wood. Wooden floors tend to expand in winter season. Humidifiers are useful to minimise these gaps.

LUXURY
VINYL

You can use a solution of vinegar (or a mild dish-washing detergent) and hot water to clean your vinyl floors. A thick paste prepared from baking soda and water will remove most stains. Ensure to rinse the floor thoroughly so that no residues remain. Avoid using abrasive substances and don’t scrub too hard.

HARDWOOD FLOORING

When cleaning hardwood floors, you need to avoid bleach, ammonia, abrasive cleaners and any products that may leave a residue and/or damage the delicate surface. If the surface of your floor is sealed with polyurethane, urethane, or a polyacrylic coating, it should be water- and stain-resistant and easy to clean.

LAMINATE
FLOORING

Hot water provides the best method for cleaning laminate floors. You can add a spoonful or two of baby shampoo in the water but it is not recommended unless the floor is extremely dirty. Wring the mop well before using it and be careful not to step on the wet floor. Wipe it dry with a clean microfiber cloth.

VACUUM
USAGE

If you are using vacuum, be careful that its wheels or beater bar doesn't damage the floor. When you are using a mop, make sure that it doesn't contain excess water. As a general rule of thumb, hardwood floors should be vacuumed at least weekly and wet cleaned every one to two months (more or less frequently, depending on traffic).

HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO MAINTAIN YOUR GREAT FLOORING

Different types of flooring are used by home and business owners these days. Floor materials include wooden flooring, laminated wood, ceramic tile, stone, terrazzo and various chemical floor coatings. Proper cleaning and maintenance will add years to your floor. From simple tips to smart cleaning solutions, learn how to care for your new floor.

POLISHING
FLOORS

Polishing renews and refreshes the finish of hardwood flooring. It should be done once every few months to fill in microscopic scratches and even out floor's protective surface. When you move furniture or wear shoes indoors, you may notice scuffs on your hardwood floors. Luckily, they can easily be rubbed away with some elbow grease.

TRIM NAILS
OF PETS

If you have pets, keep their nails trimmed and paws clean to avoid scratches and stains on the floor. If you come across a spot that needs a quick touch-up, clean with a water-dampened paper towel and wipe dry. To remove light scuffs, buff it out with a sock or a clean, fuzzy tennis ball.

HEAVY
OBJECTS

Never try to slide or roll heavy objects across the floor without adequate protection. It can be tempting to try to move something by yourself, especially if you’re in a time crunch and you want to get something done without having to wait for help. But think about the risks. The last thing you need is a damaged floor or a damaged back.

SWEEP
OFTEN

A soft-bristle broom can get up most of the pet hair, dust and dirt that collects on your floor. Examine how much traffic your floors get and then establish a cleaning schedule that makes the most sense. Work your way around the entire floor, cleaning one small area at a time.
